Severe weather events like floods can cause devastating damage in Germany. In flood-prone areas, numerous solar power systems are also affected by flooding. System operators, local emergency responders, and installers need to know what to do to handle the systems safely. Therefore, SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA) provides important information and background knowledge on how to manage solar systems during floods.

Solar power systems, which convert the sun's energy into electricity without emissions and thus make a crucial contribution to climate protection, pose no danger during normal operation. However, as with all electrical devices, caution is advised with solar power systems, both with and without battery storage, in the event of water ingress, for example, due to flooding. To avoid the risk of electric shock, flooded rooms where inverters or other solar power system components are still live must not be entered.
