Specifically for Europe: LONGi launches a new solar module version with 66 cells
LONGi, one of the world's leading solar technology companies, is expanding its successful HiMO5 product family with a new half-cell module version specifically designed for European markets. Based on the globally standardized M10 wafer size, it features 66 cells and a newly designed frame. This allows for easy mounting on the short sides of the frame for horizontal installations, optimizing space utilization in large-scale ground-mounted systems. With conventional modules of the same or larger size, mounting on the short sides is either very limited or significantly increases installation and material costs.
Significantly more system design variants
The new HiMO5m module version with 66 cells is ideally suited for applications such as landscape-format systems in the utility sector. It makes system planning significantly more flexible compared to purely portrait-format mounting and is compatible with all standard mounting systems.
This allows for the implementation of, for example, 6-row landscape-format systems, which would otherwise require significantly more mounting rails and clamps. Hybrid configurations, where the module clamps are mounted partly on the short side and partly on the long side, are also feasible.
Combination of cell know-how and frame engineering
The new module version builds on the successful HiMO5 technology. LONGi has already shipped over 30 gigawatts of this product family with gallium-doped half-cells. For the new version, LONGi has adjusted the number of cells and modified and reinforced the design to ensure sufficient mechanical stability.
Longi's HiMO5 series products are characterized by their durability, low light aging thanks to Low LID technology, and high quality. The modules have already received multiple awards from RETC and PVEL and are the winner of the Intersolar Award 2021.

Largest solar cell manufacturers worldwide by sales in 2021
In 2020, Aiko was the world's largest solar cell manufacturer with sales of 31.3 gigawatts. Seven of the ten largest listed solar cell manufacturers are based in China.
Photovoltaic market worldwide
Worldwide, the installed capacity of photovoltaic systems is increasing annually. Asia, followed at a considerable distance by Europe, has seen the most recent installations. China accounts for approximately one-third of the global installed photovoltaic capacity. Germany is responsible for roughly one-tenth of the total global PV capacity.
Classification within Renewable Energies
Unlike fossil fuels such as coal, renewable energy sources are renewable. The share of renewable energies in electricity generation in Germany has increased significantly in recent years. Within the renewable energy sector, wind power is the energy source with the highest electricity generation in Germany. Photovoltaics recently accounted for around one-fifth of the electricity generated from renewable sources. Worldwide, the share of photovoltaics in total renewable electricity production was around ten percent.
