Technology jump: How Metas Hyprenova glasses changed the AR experience

Augmented Reality meets style: What makes the HYTEROVA SMART GLASSES unique

Meta, with its new Hypricernova Smart Glasses generation, takes an important step towards Augmented Reality (AR). Under the code name “Hypernova”, the Facebook group develops a high-end version of its popular Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, which is to be launched in 2025. The glasses will be equipped with an integrated display in the right glasses and is expected to cost more than $ 1,000. This new technology should enable users to display digital content directly in the field of vision and to interact with gestures, touch control or voice commands, which represents significant progress compared to the current models.

Suitable for:

Technical innovation and display integration

Hyprenova glasses are a significant further development of the current Ray Ban Meta Smart Glasses, which have so far been made without a display. The new model will be equipped with an innovative display in the right glasses, which is positioned at the bottom of the field of vision and can be seen best when the user looks down. This technical challenge requires elegant integration to very limited space, which is technically demanding and costly.

The homescreen of the glasses is said to show circular icons in horizontal arrangement, similar to the user interface of the meta quest. Users can access various applications, including apps for photography, viewing photos and navigation. In addition, the glasses will also support METAS messaging services such as WhatsApp and Messenger and display smartphone notifications.

The Hyprenova camera should also experience an upgrade. While the current 12-megapixel camera of the Ray-Ban Meta corresponds to the camera quality of the iPhone 11 from 2019, the company is now striving for an improvement, which should be comparable to the camera of the iPhone 13 of 2021.

Innovative control methods

The Hyprenova glasses will be operated using several advanced methods. In addition to the already known touchpoints on the glasses frame, the glasses should also be controllable via hand gestures. A special bracelet called Ceres that Meta has already developed for its Orion-Ar-glasses could be used for this.

The so-called Semg band (Surface Electromyography) can recognize muscle movements in the hand and differentiate between different gestures, such as the fingering of the fingers or scrolling with the thumb. This technology makes interaction with the small display much more comfortable and enables a smartphone-like experience without the need to keep a device in your hand.

META AI is likely to be used for voice control, although this function is not yet available in Germany due to data protection concerns, since a cloud connection is required for the processing of the language data.

Market positioning and pricing

The Hyprenova glasses will clearly stand out from the previous Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, both in terms of functionality and the price. With an expected price of over $ 1,000-possibly even up to $ 1,400-it will be more than three times as expensive as the current models that are available in Europe from $ 299 or around $ 330.

The high price is mainly explained by the costly display technology and the considerable development effort. Meta positions the Hyprenova in the “Mid-Tier” segment of the smart glasses, comparable to other glasses presented on the CES such as the Rokid Glasses, which can display green text.

The success of the current Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, of which Meta 2024 has already sold around one million units, gives the company confidence for the market launch of a premium model. The previous glasses offer basic functions such as photo and video recording, music reproduction and telephony, while Hyprenova with their display and extended functions is a significant step towards real augmented reality.

The balancing act of design and innovation

The integration of a display into fashionable glasses represents considerable technical challenges. Previous brilliant displays often require bulky cables or external connections, which restricts the attractiveness and suitability for everyday use. Hyprenova will also not be fully self-sufficient-a constant Bluetooth connection to the smartphone will probably be required for Internet access and the use of AI functions.

Another critical point is the battery life, which could be impaired by the energy -hungry display. Here Meta has to find a good compromise between functionality and useful life in order to ensure the everyday suitability of the glasses.

The challenge is also to integrate advanced technology into an elegant, non-intrusive design that corresponds to the style-conscious image of the Ray Ban brand.

Suitable for:

Outlook on future developments

Meta already thinks beyond Hyprenova and is working on a successor model called “Hypernova 2”, which is to be equipped with displays in both glasses (binocular display system). This more advanced model could come onto the market in 2027 and offer an even more inevitable AR experience.

With these developments, Meta approaches his vision of a fully integrated AI assistant who can see, listen, speak, speak, speak, speak, speak. However, Hyprenova is not yet full-fledged AR glasses like the Orion project, which Meta presented at its Connect 2024 fair and is still at the prototype stage.

The competition in this segment is increasingly intensifying with companies such as Openai, Google and Snap, which also work on AI-based glasses. Meta, however, follows a clear strategy: With Hyprenova, an intermediate step on the way to full-fledged AR glasses is offered, which is supposed to slowly get used to the new technology and inspire consumers for future products.

How the Hyprenova paves the way for affordable AR technology

METAS HYPERNOVA Smart-Glasses represent a significant development in the area of smart glasses and mark an important step towards everyday augmented reality technology. With the integrated display, improved camera functions and innovative control methods, the glasses offers previously unmatched use experience that stands out significantly from previous models.

The Hydernova will initially make the high price of over $ 1,000 $ 1,000. Nevertheless, this development with this development lays the foundation for future, possibly more affordable AR glasses and strategically positions itself in a promising market that has the potential to partially replace smartphones.

The fact that Meta is already working on a successor model with displays in both lenses underlines the long -term commitment of the company in this area and indicates continuous further development of the technology. The future of the smart glasses has just started and Meta wants to play a leading role in this development.
