🔥🌡️ Internal use of waste heat and infrared technology to increase the efficiency of hall heating
🏭💡 Initial state and challenges
The use of waste heat in companies and the application of infrared technology for heating systems increasingly increase energy efficiency and thus make an important contribution to environmental protection and cost reduction. With the innovative approach of a new heating system based on infrared heating technology, Höganäs Germany GmbH has done pioneering work at the Laufenburg location in collaboration with KÜBLER GmbH: Significant energy savings are achieved through the intelligent interaction of both systems.
The Laufenburg location originally had a high energy requirement for heating its complex building structure. Particular challenges arose from low ceiling heights and internal rooms, which required special heating and ventilation technology.
🌟🛠️ Revolutionary infrastructural change
A fundamental change was achieved through the implementation of a heating system based on infrared heating technology, which comprehensively integrates the existing heat flows of the production halls and the waste heat recovery system. This innovative change enables the efficient use of all heat sources and optimized energy utilization throughout the entire company premises.
🎛️📊 Intelligent control and optimization
The heart of the new system is a central control software that takes care of the monitoring, analysis and automated control of the system. It is able to record consumption data in real time and use it to constantly optimize the heating processes.
💚📉 Achieved energy savings and environmental contribution
Through the innovative use of infrared technology and intelligent system control, heating energy requirements were reduced by an impressive 70%. This corresponds to an annual saving of 2,900 MWh of natural gas, a reduction in CO2 emissions and underlines Höganäs Germany's commitment to climate protection.
💰🔄 Economically attractive rental model
The changeover took place as part of a rental model, which makes the use of the new, energy-efficient heating technology economical from the start. This model also offers other companies the opportunity to reduce their own energy costs without having to make large investments.
🌱🏭 Pioneering example for the industry
The measures at Höganäs Germany not only set new standards in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability, but also contribute to a significant reduction in operating costs. They impressively demonstrate how modern heating technology combined with waste heat utilization can shape the future of sustainable production.
🌟 Energetic hall heating renovation: A lighthouse project from dena
🔩 Project overview
The renovation of the hall heating as an energy-saving project is a showcase project of the German Energy Agency (dena). It demonstrates in an exemplary manner how considerable amounts of energy - specifically 3.7 million kilowatt hours and thus almost 70 percent of previous consumption - can be saved. This project was realized in cooperation between the company KÜBLER, which specializes in hall heating, and Höganäs Germany GmbH (formerly known as HC Starck) in Laufenburg, near the Swiss border.
🌐 Recognition by dena
dena recognizes this project as a flagship project and has highlighted it as a best practice example on its website. What is particularly noteworthy is that this major renovation is impressive not only because of its scale and complexity, but also because of its outstanding results.
🔧 Technological implementation
The aim of the energy renovation was to convert the entire factory hall to modern, decentralized infrared (IR) heating technology. Seven different building areas with an area of approximately 12,000 square meters were affected by the restructuring.
🌞 KÜBLER's use of technology
Today the location benefits from energy-efficient heating using KÜBLER technology. Additional heating and ventilation concepts were used in parts of the building complex that presented particular challenges due to low ceiling heights and interior locations.
🔄 Integration and management
The heating systems were designed to take all heat flows within the halls into account. This also includes heat recovery from the existing compressor system. The control unit from KÜBLER, CELESTRA, as well as the heat management module EMMA, which enables the recording and evaluation of gas and electricity consumption using interfaces specially developed by KÜBLER, play a central role.
💰 Cost-effective financing
What is interesting is that the heating project was implemented under financially attractive conditions using a rental concept called HeizWerk. This resulted in no direct investment costs. The combined rental and consumption costs are below the previous energy costs and make the project economically viable. This innovative rental model makes energy-saving heating possible even with limited financial resources.
📉 Energy saving and environmental contribution
The measures implemented led to a saving of 3.7 million kWh of energy - a big step for the company, which also represents a significant contribution to the energy transition. Such exemplary projects are of great importance in today's world, which is characterized by climate change and the need for energy efficiency. They show in a practical way how industry and commerce can reduce their energy consumption and at the same time improve operating results.
💡 Innovation and inspiration
This holistic approach, which combines technological innovation with financial practicality, not only shows ways in which sustainable technology deployments can be realized on a large scale, but also inspires other companies to develop and implement sustainable energy concepts. The energy savings achieved during the renovation of Höganäs Germany GmbH clearly illustrate the potential that lies in modernizing old heating systems.
🤝 Future perspectives
In the future, such projects could increasingly become standard, supported by political framework conditions that make energy-saving renovations particularly attractive in industry through subsidies or tax incentives. The further development of the technologies used, for example through increasingly efficient infrared modules or intelligent control systems, will also contribute to greater energy savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions.
🌱 Sustainability as an economic factor
This project is an example of a successful approach in the area of energy management and building renovation, which brings not only ecological benefits but also economic advantages. Such projects show that sustainable investments in the future can pay off in the present and should therefore serve as an incentive for further developments in this area.
