🖥️ Digitization and machine operation

📱🏭 In recent years, digitalization has fundamentally changed the way we operate and learn machines. Milling machines, bench drills and lathes are no exception. These machines are now operated via touchscreens, similar to smartphones or tablets. This technological advancement has not only improved the efficiency and accuracy of the machines, but also the way students learn to turn on them.

🚀 An important player in the German market for training-specific lathes has recognized this trend and is successfully using it to inspire the younger generation for metal professions. This market leader is committed to revolutionizing learning by integrating elements of “gamification”. This approach is aimed at the communication and learning habits of Generation Z and relies on online games and animation software to make the training process more exciting and interactive.

🖐️ Using touchscreens on milling machines, bench drills and lathes has numerous advantages. On the one hand, it makes operation much easier. Instead of complicated buttons and knobs, users can control the machines simply by touching the screen. This not only simplifies the work process, but also enables students and trainees to be trained more quickly. They are already familiar with touchscreen technology because they use their smartphones or tablets every day. This familiarity eases the transition to operating machines, shortening the learning curve.

🔍 In addition, the touchscreens also enable better visualization of work processes. The screen can display diagrams, animations and instructions to help users better understand the machines and their functions. This is particularly helpful for students who are visual learners and benefit from visual representations.

🎮 Another important aspect of digitalization is the integration of gamification elements. This approach uses the principles of games to make learning more exciting and motivating. The German market leader for training-specific lathes has recognized that Generation Z, who grew up in a digital world, often have a higher affinity for playful approaches.

🎯 In this context, games are developed that are specifically tailored to the needs of the trainees. These games allow students to deepen their knowledge of the machines and their applications in a playful way. You can complete challenges, earn rewards and track progress. This creates an incentive to engage more intensively with the machines and deepen their technical understanding.

🎨 Animation software and interactive learning modules are also used. These offer students the opportunity to explore how the lathes work in a virtual environment. You can run experiments, troubleshoot, and test the machines in different scenarios without using physical machines. This enables risk-free learning and promotes trainees’ self-confidence.

📈 Another advantage of gamification in the training sector is the ability to track performance. Teachers and trainers can closely monitor student progress and provide targeted feedback. This allows for individualized care and support to ensure each student achieves their full potential.

🏭 The integration of gamification elements into training for metal professions has proven to be extremely successful. It not only increased students' motivation, but also improved the effectiveness of the learning process. Students are more motivated to get to know the machines and expand their technical knowledge. This helps to increase the quality of training in this area and ensure that future professionals are well trained.

🌐 In addition, the digitalization of milling machines, bench drills and lathes also contributes to efficiency in the manufacturing industry. Operation via touchscreens enables more precise control of the machines, which leads to higher production quality. Errors are minimized and work processes are optimized.

📊 Another important aspect is the networking of machines and the use of data analysis. Modern machines are able to collect and transmit data about their operations. This data can be analyzed to monitor machine performance, predict maintenance needs and optimize production. This leads to less downtime and overall more efficient production.

🤖 The integration of AI (artificial intelligence) and machine learning opens up even more possibilities. These machines can recognize patterns, make automatic adjustments, and adapt to changing conditions. This significantly increases flexibility and productivity in the manufacturing industry.

🎓 It is also important to mention that digitalization makes it easier to train and upskill professionals. With new technologies, training modules and materials can be easily updated and customized. This is crucial to ensure that trainees are always up to date with the latest technology and able to meet the ever-changing needs of the industry.

🌟 Digitalization is revolutionizing the way we operate and learn machines. The integration of touchscreens, gamification elements and data analysis has increased efficiency, increased trainee motivation and improved the quality of training. This also has a positive impact on the manufacturing industry by making it more efficient and flexible. The future of the metalworking professions will undoubtedly be shaped by increasing digitalization, and this development promises exciting opportunities for students, trainers and the industry as a whole.

🏫 WEILER: A traditional manufacturer serving the vocational school 2 in Nuremberg

🤝 WEILER, a traditional family business, has had a close partnership with Vocational School 2 in Nuremberg for a long time. The previous models of their lathes were in use in the school's workshops for over two decades. But now an exciting change is coming as these old machines are being replaced by state-of-the-art models. A notable aspect of this development is the fact that WEILER also supplied milling machines from its partner company KUNZMANN for the first time. Both companies are part of the group of companies owned by the Eisler family.

🏆 Winning this important contract was a source of pride for Michael Eisler, MBA, managing partner of WEILER. “As a Middle Franconian company, we are particularly pleased that we can continue to equip the Nuremberg vocational school with our premium machines ‘Made in Germany’,” he emphasized. WEILER was selected as part of a public procurement process following a Europe-wide tender.

🔧 A total of 26 new training machines were delivered, weighing an impressive total of 19,000 kg. This corresponds to the weight of three adult bull elephants. The delivery and installation of these machines was a logistical challenge that required perfect coordination.

🚚 In order to get the new machines to their destination, the experts from WEILER and the vocational school 2 in Nuremberg had to get creative. The largest machines could not fit through the doors of the workshops, so window openings were used for access. Even there, there was little room to move machines weighing up to 2,000 kg through the openings.

🤝 A well-rehearsed team of around ten shipping employees, truck drivers, transporters, crane operators and carpenters worked hand in hand to overcome this challenge. Over a period of three days, the machines were brought from the WEILER factory in Emskirchen near Herzogenaurach to Nuremberg Gostenhof. The machines were distributed across two articulated lorries, which delivered to the vocational school via Kernstrasse and Müllnerstrasse on consecutive days. Once they arrived in front of the building, the machines were lifted into the workshop rooms with a crane to take their new place.
