🌞🏭 Energy and industrial transformation

The WOLFFKRAN production facility in Luckau, a historically established industrial site, is setting a clear example for the transition to sustainable production with the commissioning of a high-performance photovoltaic system. This is an exemplary step towards the energy transition and climate protection.

💡🌱 The photovoltaic system as a core element of the sustainability strategy

With the installation of a total of 1,880 photovoltaic modules, which now adorn the roofs of the production halls and office complex, WOLFFKRAN Werk Brandenburg GmbH has made a forward-looking decision. Starting at the end of July, this solar power system will generate approximately 700,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy annually. This corresponds to around 40 percent of the plant's total energy needs—a significant step that underscores the company's commitment to environmental responsibility. In its first year of operation alone, the system is expected to supply 15 percent of the plant's electricity requirements.

💰🍃 Cost savings and CO2 reduction: A double win

David Zelder, Managing Director of WOLFFKRAN Werk Brandenburg GmbH, emphasizes the importance of the new plant: Not only are significant cost savings expected, but a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions is also projected – around 255 tons less CO2 per year. This reduction is equivalent to planting over 12,000 trees, based on the average CO2 absorption of a tree.

🤝🔧 Partnership and technical expertise

This ambitious project was realized through collaboration with Emis Electrics GmbH, based in Lübbenau, a company renowned for its expertise in renewable energy technologies. Their expertise in the planning, installation, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems was crucial for the smooth start of solar power production in Luckau.

⚡🚗 Electromobility as a further building block of the energy strategy

WOLFFKRAN's energy vision extends beyond electricity production. As part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy, the company plans to install six charging stations for electric vehicles soon to promote electromobility for employees and guests. Furthermore, the company's own forklifts and pallet trucks will also be powered by clean solar energy in the future.

🌿🏭 The path to green production

The photovoltaic system in Luckau is more than just a collection of solar panels – it is a symbol of the transformation in industrial production. It represents a move away from fossil fuels and a crucial step towards a sustainable, environmentally friendly economy.

🌿 Sustainable renovation in Luckau

The implementation of a climate-friendly renovation in Luckau is a prime example of sustainable business practices and responsibility towards the environment and society. The initiative is not only a response to rising electricity prices, but also reflects growing environmental awareness and a commitment to climate protection. Of course, it was ultimately the high electricity prices that gave the project its final impetus at the end of 2022, admits David Zelder, Managing Director of WOLFFKRAN Werk Brandenburg GmbH.

🌞 Renewable energies and heat recovery

With its focus on renewable energies and heat recovery, the company will assume a pioneering role in the region. The modernization encompasses not only the technical upgrade of existing facilities but also the integration of sustainable technologies into the entire operational structure. This applies to both production sites and administrative units. The goal is to significantly increase energy efficiency and drastically reduce CO2 emissions. Such measures are crucial, as industry is one of the largest energy consumers and CO2 emitters worldwide.

🏭 Modernization of heating and ventilation systems

“Next year, we plan to modernize the heating and ventilation systems in the production hall and the administration building using renewable energy and heat recovery systems, which we will also implement with local partners,” said David Zelder. The new heating and ventilation systems are based on renewable energy, meaning a move away from fossil fuels. The installation of solar panels in the second production hall will allow for the effective use of solar energy. This type of energy generation is not only clean and renewable, but also cost-efficient in the long run. Switching to a more environmentally friendly energy supply is a crucial step towards achieving climate goals and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our operations.

🤝 Partnership with local stakeholders

Partnerships with local stakeholders are crucial for the successful implementation of sustainable projects. These alliances not only benefit the local economy but also ensure that the implemented solutions are finely tuned to specific regional conditions. The integration of local experts and businesses allows for a direct exchange of expertise and fosters region-specific knowledge in the renewable energy sector.

☀️ Energy-efficient renovation of the additionally acquired buildings

The buildings acquired last year are also currently undergoing energy-efficient renovations. In addition to an environmentally friendly heating and ventilation system, the second production hall will also be powered by solar energy.

🌍 Transformation to climate-neutral companies

The transformation of companies into climate-neutral institutions is one of the most pressing challenges of our time.

🏗️ WOLFFKRAN GmbH and its strategy

In this context, Luckau represents a significant step for WOLFFKRAN GmbH. Managing Director Andreas Kahl emphasizes that local initiatives like the one at the Luckau site are central to the company's strategy for achieving its ambitious goal of climate neutrality.

🌿 Climate certificates and CO2 compensation

As in 2020/21, WOLFFKRAN has also purchased carbon credits for 2022/23 to fully offset its annual greenhouse gas emissions. WOLFFKRAN is pleased to report that, thanks to local savings, fewer CO2-equivalent emissions had to be offset at all its German locations in 2022/23 than in previous years. The company is now using the credits acquired in 2022 to support a wind energy project in Mexico.

♻️ Climate neutrality according to the “Clean Development Mechanism”

This makes WOLFFKRAN one of the first manufacturers in the industry to voluntarily offset its emissions under the “Clean Development Mechanism”, a mechanism established by the Kyoto Protocol to reduce greenhouse gases.

🌱 Sustainability and progress

Through these comprehensive efforts, WOLFFKRAN is positioning itself as a pioneer in the transformation to a more sustainable business model.

🤝 Economic growth and environmental protection

By continuously improving its sustainability practices, the company is setting standards for the industry and demonstrating that economic growth and environmental protection can go hand in hand.

🌟 Climate neutrality as a long-term commitment

The journey to climate neutrality is complex and requires a long-term commitment, but companies like WOLFFKRAN demonstrate that it is possible to make significant progress along this path.
