No data security: Virtual Showrooms & Co. – What most people have forgotten and what you can do about it

The best data security is of no use if your virtual showroom or 3D product presentation provides the competition with all the information free of charge

Data security means the protection of digital data. This has been a major issue for some time now, especially in Europe.

While data protection is currently the focus and plays an important role mainly for marketing and sales, data security has so far been more of a task for IT.

In the future, sales and marketing will also have to increasingly deal with the issue of data security, especially when it comes to the 3D models of their products.

Because data protection deals with the handling of personal data, data security is the general protection of data, regardless of whether personal data is affected or not.

  • Data protection: To what extent customer-related data may be used and processed.
  • Data security: Protection of customer data, company data, or product data.

Product data also includes 3D models, which have been used online, offline, and via the internet for quite some time. The risk of competitors gaining access to this data, and thus to internal company know-how, is greatest here.

Once the 3D models of the products have been released internally, there's no going back. Marketing and sales, unaware of this, unknowingly make highly sensitive company and product data available online without giving any further thought to data security. After all, it's been approved by the company.

Survey on the availability of security concepts for cloud application scenarios

Even the much-touted data security for cloud applications via cloud platforms is deceptive. If data is shared for marketing and sales purposes to reach new potential customers, even the best security concept is useless.

In a survey, 77 percent of cloud users stated that their company has specific security concepts (defined security requirements and measures) for the individual cloud use cases.

This question was phrased as follows in the survey: “Does your company have specific security concepts for your individual cloud application scenarios, in which security requirements and security measures are defined for the respective use case?”

Does your company have specific security concepts for your individual cloud application scenarios?

Yes: 77%

No: 20%

Don't know / No information: 4%

How customer contact and data security still work

More and more companies are using 3D models for impressive digital marketing and sales. The question that should be asked sooner or later: How do you ensure that highly sensitive product data does not reach third parties?

In a webinar from Vuframe, the terms that are often incorrectly used as a synonym for data security are clarified and at the same time show which criteria you must pay attention to in order to protect your data.
