The data theft of 1,000 politicians, celebrities and journalists has once again brought the issue of data protection and security to the forefront of public interest. A survey from last year shows which measures for greater cybersecurity Germans support. Almost every second respondent wants the government to hold website operators more accountable. A similar number would like the responsible authorities to make more money available for cybersecurity. Around 37 percent are in favor of the government being allowed to carry out counterattacks (“hack back”) in the event of cyber attacks.
