Phaenom CEO presents Kardex Remstar's Virtual & Augmented Reality approach at Ulm logistics meeting
The 15th ULM, the Ulm Logistics Meeting held on November 24, 2016, at Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences, addressed the trend toward digitalization in the logistics sector. At the annual conference, which brought together prominent representatives from the logistics industry, the focus was not only on current trends but also, and perhaps primarily, on future developments within the sector. In addition to topics such as the impact of 3D printing and new transport solutions, the role of virtual reality technology and its potential applications in logistics were highlighted.
Richard Hagl, founder and managing director of Phaenom GmbH from Munich, the technical partner of Xpert.Digital, a solutions provider and developer of digital solutions for companies in a wide range of industries, was among the speakers. In his presentation, “Opportunities through Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality in Logistics?”, he emphasized the importance of such applications.
He cited the intralogistics manufacturer Kardex Remstar from neighboring Neuburg an der Kammel as an example, a company that has already experimented with the technology at trade fairs. At this year's FachPack trade fair in Nuremberg, the company's automated storage systems were presented using innovative virtual and augmented reality displays. By incorporating quasi-realistic elements and enabling digital interaction via provided smart glasses and mobile apps, simulations were created that gave viewers the feeling of being right in the middle of the technical action.
