One of Germans' favorite leisure activities is watching television. The average daily viewing time last year was 221 minutes. As the infographic shows, news programs were by far the most popular television format among German citizens last year. Crime dramas and live sports broadcasts or sports programs like "Sportstudio" or "Sportschau" came in second and third place, respectively. These were followed by programs with a regional focus. Travel and quiz shows came in a close second. The least popular programs were arts and culture programs (7 percent), evening talk shows like "Markus Lanz" (6.4 percent), and teleshopping formats (1.8 percent).
