Amazon * is by far the number one online shop operating in Germany. In 2017, the company generated sales of approximately €8.8 billion in Germany. Otto (€3 billion) and Zalando (€1.3 billion) follow at a considerable distance. The ranking of the top 10 online shops ** is part of the study “E-Commerce Market Germany 2018,” published jointly by Statista and the EHI Retail Institute, which will be released for the tenth time in October. The study examines the German B2C e-commerce market from a supply perspective, based on a detailed analysis of the 1,000 largest online shops by revenue.
* According to the annual report, total revenue in Germany amounts to approximately €15 billion. However, this includes service and subscription revenues (AWS, Prime memberships, audible.de, etc.) as well as all exports from amazon.de abroad. Service revenues, exports, and revenues from other Amazon offerings were excluded from the German revenue figure for www.amazon.de.
** eBay is not included in the ranking because the company generates its revenue as a pure marketplace exclusively through commissions.
