In 2017, Amazon was once again the most successful online shop in the Alpine republic in Austria with sales of 643 million euros. The German fashion retailer Zalando (230 million euros) follows a long way behind, ahead of the domestic generalist Universal (133.6 million euros). Two other providers from our own country, electronic4you and e-tec.at, also made it into the top 10. The ranking is part of a study “E-Commerce Market Austria/Switzerland 2018” by EHI and Statista. This is the eighth time the survey has analyzed the 250 largest online shops in each of the two countries.
With sales of CHF 690 million in 2017, the technology retailer Digitec took first place in the ranking of the largest online shops in Switzerland. However, the lead over number two, Zalando, is only minimal. The German fashion retailer has sales of 685 million CHF. The top group is decided by generalist Amazon, which with around 431 million CHF falls significantly behind the previous year's result.
