Despite more content, people are consuming more selectively: Only 47 seconds left? How the flood of digital content limits our attention

Content development: Disproportionate growth despite signs of fatigue

Content production continues to grow disproportionately and shows no signs of slowing down. However, the quality and type of content is fundamentally changing due to the massive use of AI tools.

Suitable for:

Explosive growth in digital content

The numbers speak for themselves: The global content creation market is growing dramatically and will increase from USD 21.0 billion in 2025 to USD 67.5 billion by 2035 – a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.4%. The digital content creation market is showing even more dynamic developments, with a CAGR of 14.2% (from USD 36.8 billion in 2025 to USD 106.6 billion by 2033).

The creator economy has also exploded: The global creator community now exceeds 200 million people worldwide. The development is particularly impressive in India, where the number of content creators increased from just 962,000 in 2020 to 4.06 million in 2024—a growth of 322% in just four years.

Data volume reaches astronomical dimensions

At the same time, global data volumes are exploding: In 2024, 149 zettabytes of data were generated worldwide, and this figure is expected to reach 181 zettabytes by 2025. This means that approximately 402.89 million terabytes of new data are created every day. For comparison, one zettabyte is equivalent to one trillion gigabytes.

Global internet traffic grew by 17.2% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Particularly noteworthy: approximately 90% of all existing data worldwide was created in the last two years.

The AI revolution is fundamentally changing the content landscape

The most dramatic development is the entry of AI into content production. According to a study by Graphite (November 2024 to May 2025), over 52% of all articles published online are now AI-generated. In November 2024, AI-generated content surpassed human-authored content for the first time.

The predictions go even further: AI expert Nina Schick projects that by the end of 2025, 90% of all online content (across all media formats) will be AI-generated. In social media, 71% of all images are already AI-generated.

The synthetic media market reflects this development: from USD 4.96 billion in 2024, it will grow to USD 16.84 billion by 2032, with a CAGR of 16.61%.

Content saturation and fatigue are increasing

Despite—or perhaps because of—this massive growth, there are clear signs of content fatigue among users. Brands publish an average of 9.5 to 10 posts per day across all networks. The human attention span has declined from 2.5 minutes in 2004 to just 47 seconds in 2023.

The engagement rates drop significantly accordingly:

  • Instagram saw its engagement rate drop from 0.98% in 2021 to 0.67% in 2022 – a 30% drop
  • TikTok's median engagement rate fell from 5.14% in January 2024 to 4.56% in January 2025
  • Facebook's organic reach fell to just 8.6% in 2022

Quality versus Quantity: The Strategic Shift

In response to content oversaturation, we're observing a clear trend: 83% of content marketers believe it's better to produce high-quality content, even if it appears less frequently. Bloggers who invest 6+ hours per article are 2.5 times more likely to report strong results.

Long-form content with over 2,000 words is proven to deliver better results, while 96% of all content receives zero traffic from Google.

Exploding Content: Why Quality Matters Now

Content development is definitely continuing to grow disproportionately, but with crucial changes:

1. Quantitative growth remains exponential: The market doubles approximately every 3-4 years
2. AI is becoming increasingly dominant: More than half of all new content is already AI-generated
3. Quality is becoming more important: Engagement rates are declining, which requires a focus on high-quality, in-depth content
4. User fatigue is increasing: Despite more content, people are consuming more selectively

For your industry hub, this means: The sheer volume of content will continue to grow, but the competition for attention will intensify dramatically. Differentiation through quality, depth, and relevance will be more crucial than ever.

AI search changes everything: How this SaaS solution is revolutionizing your B2B rankings forever.

The digital landscape for B2B companies is undergoing rapid change. Driven by artificial intelligence, the rules of online visibility are being rewritten. It has always been a challenge for companies to not only be visible in the digital masses, but also to be relevant to the right decision-makers. Traditional SEO strategies and local presence management (geomarketing) are complex, time-consuming, and often a battle against constantly changing algorithms and intense competition.

But what if there were a solution that not only simplifies this process, but makes it smarter, more predictive, and far more effective? This is where the combination of specialized B2B support with a powerful SaaS (Software as a Service) platform, specifically designed for the needs of SEO and GEO in the age of AI search, comes into play.

This new generation of tools no longer relies solely on manual keyword analysis and backlink strategies. Instead, it leverages artificial intelligence to more precisely understand search intent, automatically optimize local ranking factors, and conduct real-time competitive analysis. The result is a proactive, data-driven strategy that gives B2B companies a decisive advantage: They are not only found, but perceived as the authoritative authority in their niche and location.

Here's the symbiosis of B2B support and AI-powered SaaS technology that is transforming SEO and GEO marketing and how your company can benefit from it to grow sustainably in the digital space.
