Televised shopping programs are enjoying increasing popularity in Germany. This is also reflected in the industry's revenues. As the infographic shows, these have grown steadily in recent years and, according to a forecast by the Association of Private Media, reach an all-time high of €2.09 billion in 2018. The internet is becoming an increasingly important sales channel: many customers become aware of products via the respective broadcaster's website or social media presence and place their orders there.
Teleshopping primarily sells household goods, clothing, fitness equipment, and jewelry. Approximately half of all customers order at least once a month. So-called "heavy users" shop several times a week. The channels' recipe for success lies in the personal approach taken by presenters and specially trained call center staff to connect with customers.
