Efficient sorting systems are crucial for the storage and retrieval of goods, not only in e-commerce, as implementing effective processes can lead to enormous time and cost savings. With this software-controlled warehouse solution, customers can efficiently consolidate order items from various storage systems (e.g., vertical lifts, static or carousel racks) into a single order, saving both time and money. Containers with the ordered goods are transported on conveyor belts to a high-bay buffer warehouse, where they are stored in a space-saving manner. When the order is finally ready, the containers are grouped into batches according to customer-specific criteria, such as the loading sequence or the desired delivery time, and transported to the packaging station or directly to the shipping station. The sort2ship system operates fully automatically and, according to the manufacturer, helps e-commerce retailers with their own warehouses or distribution centers, handling thousands of order items daily, to increase their picking performance by up to 35%. The racking system can also be equipped with additional features particularly important for the food retail sector, such as cooling or drying.
