It is not only in e-commerce that efficient sorting systems are particularly important when storing and retrieving goods, as enormous time and cost savings can be achieved by implementing effective processes. with storage was coined in this context . At the beginning of the year, the intralogistics provider Kardex Remstar presented its sort2ship system, which is designed to optimize these processes.

With the software-controlled storage solution, customers can bundle their order items that need to be picked from different storage systems (e.g. storage lifts, static or circulation racks) into one order in a time- and cost-efficient manner. The containers with the ordered goods are transported on conveyor belts to a high-bay buffer warehouse, where they are stored in a small space to save space. When the order is finally called off, the containers are combined into batches according to customer-specific criteria, such as the order of loading or the desired delivery time, and transported to the packaging station or directly to the shipping station. Sort2ship is controlled completely automatically and, according to the manufacturer, helps e-commerce retailers with their own warehouses or distribution centers with many thousands of order items every day to increase their picking performance by up to 35%. It is of course possible to equip the shelf storage with additional functions such as cooling or drying, which are particularly important for food retailers.
