The construction of the carport was undertaken by Rudolf Hörmann GmbH & Co. KG from Buchloe, a company specializing in such structures. They successfully incorporated not only a purely functional building but also aesthetic considerations to enhance the cityscape.

📞🔧 Customer service and maintenance

Even after completion, Albwerk will remain involved: As Charge Point Operators (CPOs), they will not only handle billing for charging sessions but also provide a 24/7 service hotline for users. This is a crucial service aspect, as the reliability and accessibility of the charging points are essential to promoting acceptance and the switch to e-mobility among citizens.

🚚💼 Delivery and installation

The required number of charging stations were delivered on schedule by Mennekes, a globally operating company in the electrical industry. The wallboxes were mounted on specially designed charging pillars from Fränkische Rohrwerke Gebr. Kirchner GmbH & Co. KG, who ensured proper and safe installation.

🚉🚀 Vision becomes reality

This infrastructure wasn't created without reason. It's the result of a long-term vision by the Zweckverband Region Schwäbische Alb (Association for the Swabian Alb Region), which has been working since 2016 to optimize connections to the new Stuttgart-Ulm railway line and make Merklingen station more attractive. With the commissioning of the new railway line in December 2022, this vision finally became a reality.

🌐🔋 Supporting local infrastructure

The project combines numerous aspects: It supports the spread of electric vehicles, promotes the use of renewable energies, and improves local infrastructure. At the same time, it is a sign of innovation and a symbol of how modern technologies can be used effectively to shape a sustainable future.

🏢🌿 Investing in the future

The solar carport in Merklingen is therefore more than just a row of parking spaces. It is a sustainable investment in the future, a showcase project demonstrating how local climate protection efforts can be implemented in practice. With its large number of charging points and the considerable electricity production from the solar panels, it provides a solid foundation for the growing number of electric cars and contributes to making the mobility transition a tangible reality in people's everyday lives.
