Criticism & Opinion on Wholesale

Speaking my mind, outside of PR, catalog, and business jargon. Unconventional, but authentic and open. Also, giving end customers and business partners a glimpse into the challenges faced by the skilled trades and retail sector. Short and sweet.

Should wholesalers provide service, expertise, and partnership for retailers?

Close cooperation between wholesalers and retailers is important to ensure an efficient and successful supply chain.

service

Wholesalers should offer retailers a comprehensive service that goes beyond simply supplying products. This includes support with inventory management, product presentation, staff training, and providing information on new products and trends.

competence

Wholesalers should possess extensive expertise regarding the products they distribute. They should be able to offer retailers advice and expertise to assist them with product selection, pricing, and marketing.

partnership

A partnership between wholesalers and retailers is based on trust, cooperation, and shared goals. Wholesalers should see themselves as partners of retailers and strive to build long-term relationships that are beneficial to both sides.

By providing service, expertise and partnership, wholesalers can help retailers be more successful and better meet customer needs.

My experiences with KENO

In the past, it has always annoyed me that when problems arose through no fault of my own, the person responsible would disappear and I would have to fight for my reputation.

Especially if you politely ask the person in question for a joint solution.

Unfortunately, this is all too often seen as a weakness nowadays.

Surely some of us have experienced this: when things escalate loudly, people tend to give in, while those who speak quietly are simply ignored or sidelined. After all, if you don't complain loudly, you're not heard.

I had to experience the same thing once again at KENO GmbH Germany.

Beautiful, impressive exhibition stands, a great website, friendly people, and pens that actually work. If everything's okay, then everything's great. Everyone's smiling, friendly, I get the feeling, hey, we're partners.

Of course, my first orders weren't a million. They were primarily a test of how the processes worked, how the communication functioned, and much more.

Of course, KENO can't compete on price. There are several competitors that are cheaper.

But I'm not concerned with low prices, but rather with service, competence and partnership.

And yes, there was indeed a memorable case where KENO refused to accommodate me regarding a hidden defect (scratches on the glass of the solar modules).

So I have to cover the warranty costs myself to avoid damaging my reputation with the customer.

KENO couldn't care less. KENO would let it come to a legal dispute, which, in the event of a loss for KENO, would have no further major consequences, but would cost me a lot of time, work, and hassle.

As far as delivery time and order processing are concerned, KENO is already top-notch.

Competence is not to be found in many, and partnership does not seem to be valued, according to the case described above.

This is my experience with KENO Germany. Everyone is welcome to form their own opinion of KENO.

General criticism of wholesale

Criticisms of wholesalers can include:

Pricing

A common complaint is that wholesalers charge excessive prices, thereby disadvantaging the end consumer.

abuse of power

Wholesalers can occupy a strong negotiating position vis-à-vis manufacturers and retailers, which can lead to unfair trading practices and an abuse of their market power.

inefficiency

Some argue that wholesale is inefficient and causes unnecessary costs because it acts as an additional stage in the supply chain.

Limited selection

Since wholesalers often specialize in certain brands and products, this can lead to a limited selection for retailers and ultimately for consumers.

Logistical challenges

The coordination and handling of large quantities of goods can lead to logistical problems, which can cause delays and bottlenecks in the supply chain.

It is important to note that these are general criticisms and do not apply to all wholesale companies. There are also many positive aspects of wholesale, such as providing efficiency and economies of scale in the supply chain.
