With 16.8 million PCs sold in the fourth quarter of 2018, HP narrowly overtook Lenovo (16.1 million) to claim the top spot. According to IDC of approximately 68.1 million computers were sold worldwide, representing a 3.7 percent decline compared to the previous year. Acer and Apple were hit hardest. Nevertheless, the market performed better than expected. This is partly due to the fact that many companies are currently replacing their computers in anticipation of the end of support for Windows 7 in January 2020.
