In Paris, Kardex Remstar impresses with its innovative AR presentation at its exhibition stand

Whether at trade fairs and roadshows, at customer appointments or meetings: companies that present their products and services to customers or business partners can hardly do without augmented reality these days. Compared to conventional forms of presentation, the technology has the decisive advantage of creating a virtual reality in front of the viewer's eyes in a small space, which quickly makes classic alternatives such as models or computer simulations look old in terms of spatial representation diversity, interaction and emotionality.

In collaboration with Kardex Remstar, the team of experts at Xpert.Digital recently launched a new evolutionary stage in the professional use of augmented reality. At the SITL logistics trade fair held in Paris in March 2018, they presented the ARKit, an AR presentation that does not require the use of the usual markers. This software solution enabled the intralogistics specialists at Kardex Remstar to import their storage solutions into any environment for presentation purposes at any location, without the iPads used having to first scan a special AR template that had to be provided.

Only an Apple tablet and the app are required for the presentation, which allows it to be used far beyond the exhibition stand. For example, Kardex Remstars Shuttle XP could be positioned and inspected graphically on a table directly in front of the customer or in any virtual space during the trade fair. A continuous zoom was available for a precise detailed view, while viewers could click into the interior of the system, where the storage and retrieval processes were demonstrated up close.

But the ARKit is not limited to trade fair use; it enables sales, for example, to have much more precise visualization options. In the future, when a customer visits, they will be able to install the system in its original size in its possible location and adjust the size proportions exactly. In this way, the customer is always presented with a virtually tailored solution with the ideal dimensions.

In a further development step of the ARKit, the future integration of a configurator is conceivable, which precisely depicts the features of the desired product. In combination with the necessary price information, at the end of the configuration there would be a desired solution with the expected price including key figures for ROI, performance, productivity or energy consumption.
