Efficiency increase with Datamatrix codes in the warehouse: New center in Türkheim introduces modern standards
In its new logistics center in Türkheim, Finsterwalder Transport & Logistik GmbH has not only significantly expanded the capacities, but also performed a technological jump in storage labeling. The conversion of one -dimensional to two -dimensional barcodes (Datamatrix) marks an important step to optimize the logistics processes and increases efficiency when receipt of goods, storage and picking. In close cooperation with Specialist Onk GmbH, over 36,000 labels and 144 signs for the new logistics system were implemented, which ensure more precise and reliable processes through innovative labeling concepts.

The new logistics center in Türkheim
At the headquarters of the Europe -wide family company Finsterwalder Transport & Logistik in Türkheim, near the A96 motorway, a modern logistics center was built on around 20,000 square meters. The system offers 35,000 additional European pitches on high rack and block storage areas and also has a 1,300 m² mezzanine area for Value Added Services.
Mischa Heidrich, Project Manager Logistics at Finsterwalder, emphasizes that the new logistics center is both the highest security standards for the stored goods and is energetically up to date. With its equipment, it enables the storage of various goods with special requirements, including products that meet the HACCP standards (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), were water hazard class III and products subject to consumption tax.
Technological equipment and service portfolio
The logistics center is controlled centrally from a control center and managed via a warehouse management system to ensure precise control of all processes. "We use the latest IT devices, control the complete in-house processing paperless," explains Heidrich. This technological orientation enables efficient and transparent logistics processing.
In addition to classic warehouse services, Finsterwalder offers a wide range of value -added services in the new center. These include value-added services, display construction, set formation and the professional handling of returns. This versatility makes the logistics center a comprehensive service location in southern Germany.
The switch to Datamatrix codes
An essential part of the modernization was the labeling of the storage spaces on shelves and on the ground. Onk GmbH, specialist for the labeling and organization of goods camps, provided and implemented a comprehensive solution for Finsterwalder.
From 1D to 2D: Technological progress in storage marking
A total of more than 36,000 labels were produced, supplied and assembled in different versions and 144 signs for shelf lines and buffer places. A central element of the innovation was the conversion of the previous one-dimensional barcodes to two-dimensional datamatrix codes.
Heidrich justifies the decision to change in the following words: With the change from 1-D to 2-D, we wanted to modernize our layouts on the one hand and adapt to the current state of the art. On the other hand, the 2-D codes are easier to scan, even if they are not complete, for example if part of the code is covered or damaged. This advantage significantly increases the reliability and speed when recording the storage space coordinates.
Innovative labeling system
All labels indicate the 12-digit storage space coordinate both in the Datamatrix code and in clarity. Onk optimized the existing layout and implemented various improvements for more efficiency.
Specific labeling solutions were developed for the different storage areas:
- For the narrow handle shelves, onk labels made of PP film made in two variants: yellow labels with directional arrow down for the first height positions and white labels with an arrow pointing upwards for all other positions.
- Special label sets were delivered for the parking spaces on the wide range shelves. These consist of a multi-level label for the lowest traverse and four associated single labels for the levels 03 to 06. On the multi-level label, the barcodes of all six levels including the clarified parking space name are printed.
- To identify the parking spaces in the block warehouse, which serve and assembled, delivered and assembled 144 signs as a buffer spaces for goods receipt, goods output and the cancellation of the picked goods.
Color coding for optimized navigation
An innovative peculiarity of the new system is the color coding of the different storage levels. For quick and flawless assignment of the different levels, each barcode has an individual background color. The first and second height position is shown on the multi-level label with appropriate directional arrows.
This color distinction makes orientation in the warehouse considerably and minimizes errors in picking. With an inventory, the barcode can be scanned directly at the respective parking space, which further accelerates the processes.
Company -wide standardization and long -term partnership
The new label layout was designed uniformly and introduced at all 13 locations of Finsterwalder. This standardization facilitates the processes throughout the company and ensures smooth operation across all branches.
Heidrich emphasizes the importance of labeling: "The labels are just as important for the management of our warehouse and essential destination as the warehouse or the shelf itself, because they characterize the clear storage space and thus ensure the assignment to the goods".
The cooperation between Finsterwalder and Onk has existed for more than 20 years. Heidrich appreciates this partnership: "We very much appreciate this long -term cooperation with our familiar contact person, since he knows our requirements and always supports us.

Future -oriented logistics through modern technologies
The switch to Datamatrix codes in the new logistics center of Finsterwalder Transport & Logistics is an example of the progressive digitization and optimization in the logistics industry. The implemented solution not only improves the efficiency and reliability in the identification of storage spaces, but also integrates seamlessly into the modern overall concept of the new logistics center.
The combination of powerful IT infrastructure, paperless processing and precise storage marking forms the basis for future-oriented logistics. Finsterwalder summarizes this philosophy itself: "Modern barcode technology, smart processes and a strong team-that's how we design future-oriented logistics at Finsterwalder!"
With the new logistics center in Türkheim, Finsterwalder has further expanded its presence in southern Germany and at the same time took an important step towards process optimization and technological innovation. The changeover to 2D barcodes underlines the company's efforts to strengthen its competitiveness through the use of modern technologies and to offer its customers optimized logistics solutions.
