It wasn't long ago that Apple became the first company in US economic history to be valued at one trillion US dollars. However, the performance of the world's most valuable company is now trending downwards. Moreover, Apple's old rival Microsoft has now reached parity in terms of market capitalization, as the chart shows. This is partly due to Microsoft's success in diversifying its business in recent years and increasing its profitability through its cloud computing operations. Many analysts, on the other hand, see Apple on the decline – without new innovations or business ideas, the downward trend on the stock market could continue.
