Kühne + Nagel International AG is one of the logistics companies with the highest sales in Europe and operates worldwide. Kühne + Nagel was founded in Bremen in 1890 by the merchants August Kühne and Friedrich Nagel as a maritime trading company. However, the company has now moved its headquarters to Switzerland and expanded its activities to cover the entire logistics industry. The majority owner of the public company, which is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, is the grandson of the company founder, Klaus-Michael Kühne.

Worldwide, the company generated sales of around 25.3 billion Swiss francs in 2019, which was accompanied by a net profit of 800 million Swiss francs. The focus of Kuehne + Nagel's activities is on the European region, with the original “home market” of Germany continuing to play a particularly important role. Despite the company's broader focus, the most profitable segment continues to be maritime trade. EBIT in the sea freight sector grew to CHF 456 million in 2019. The results of the land transport and contract logistics segments also increased in 2019. However, the EBIT of the air freight division fell by 26 million Swiss francs compared to the previous year, which was primarily due to the sharp decline in demand.

Overall, the company coped well with the global economic and financial crisis. After a brief slump in 2009, sales and income as well as equity were stabilized and expanded.
