Job satisfaction is lowest in Japan

Employees in Japan are the most dissatisfied with their jobs. According to the Randstad Workmonitor, only about 42 percent of respondents there confirm they are satisfied with their jobs. Furthermore, 21 percent in the Asian island nation also report being dissatisfied – the highest figure of all 34 countries surveyed.

The high level of dissatisfaction stems, in part, from the immense pressure placed on employees in Japan. The country is known worldwide for its strong work ethic and highly hierarchical work culture. However, improvement is on the horizon – new laws are intended to better protect employees in Japan from psychological and physical abuse in the workplace.

Of those surveyed in Germany, almost three-quarters are satisfied with their job. Only about 9 percent respond in the opposite direction.
