Intersolar Europe 2025: Innovation and the future of the solar industry
Munich to become center of solar technology again in 2025
Intersolar Europe 2025, the world's leading trade fair for the solar industry, will open its doors from May 7 to 9, 2025, at the Munich Exhibition Center. With the motto "Connecting Solar Business," the event has been bringing together the industry's key players for over 30 years. This year, visitors can expect to see numerous innovative technologies and forward-looking solutions for solar energy.
Basic data of the trade fair
Intersolar Europe 2025 will take place as part of “The smarter E Europe”, Europe’s largest trade fair alliance for the energy industry. With 1,450 exhibitors covering 105,500 m², the fair will showcase the enormous dynamism of the solar sector. A total of 2,738 exhibitors and more than 100,000 visitors are expected at the entire “The smarter E Europe” event, which also includes the trade fairs ees Europe, Power2Drive Europe, and EM-Power Europe.
Technological breakthroughs in solar cells
Tandem solar cells: Efficiency leap
One of the standout highlights of the trade fair is the progress made in perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells. This latest generation of solar cells combines the semiconductor materials silicon and perovskite in layers and promises efficiencies of up to 45 percent. The Chinese manufacturer Longi is presenting a new world record at the fair: a crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell with an efficiency of 34.85 percent certified by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Longi is also announcing a new back-contact photovoltaic module at Intersolar.
Made in Germany
IBC SOLAR is presenting a new private label module “Made in Germany” with 2D matrix technology, which is considered one of the highlights at the company's stand.
Storage as a key technology
Trina Storage, the storage division of the Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer Trinasolar, presents the Elementa 2 Pro 5 MWh energy storage system. This large-scale battery storage system boasts a compact design and innovative hybrid cooling technology that aims to keep cell temperature differences to a maximum of 2.5 °C, even under extreme conditions. Equipped with 314 Ah cells, the system is expected to offer an impressive lifespan of up to 15,000 cycles and meet the highest safety standards thanks to a three-stage electrical protection system.
Hybrid power plants: Integration of renewable energies
The VSB Group, which has been part of the TotalEnergies Group since 2025, is presenting its current activities in the field of photovoltaics and hybrid energy solutions. The focus is on projects that combine wind and solar energy with battery storage. Of particular note is a project in Poland, where one of the country's largest combined PV and storage projects, with a capacity of around 300 MWp, is being built.
Innovative assembly systems
IBC SOLAR is expanding its portfolio with the IBC WallFix facade system, a solution for wall mounting of PV modules. The system offers universal mounting options for various wall types such as brick, trapezoidal sheet metal, or concrete. The company is also showcasing its complete range of mounting systems for pitched and flat roofs, as well as commercial roofs with a slope.
The smarter E AWARD 2025
On the eve of the trade fair, the winners of The smarter E AWARD 2025 were honored in an official ceremony. In each of the five categories – Photovoltaics, Energy Storage, E-Mobility, Smart Integrated Energy, and Outstanding Projects – three winners were recognized. The award-winning solutions will be presented during the trade fair, and the winners will be available for discussions and networking.
Research and Development
Fraunhofer ISE will be showcasing selected highlights from various areas of solar research, including agri-photovoltaics, materials, cells and production technology, module technology, PV module quality, electrical energy storage, and power electronics. Researchers from the institute will also be present at the trade fair and the accompanying conference with numerous lectures and workshops.
