On Friday, a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack of unprecedented magnitude partially paralyzed the websites of Paypal, Spotify, Amazon, Twitter and other providers. According to initial analyses, networked devices, especially cameras and digital video recorders, were used for the attack on the web service provider Dyn. This makes it clear that data protection is perhaps not the biggest problem of the Internet of Things (IoT). Theoretically, all devices connected to the Internet can be manipulated by hackers and thus become a weapon, regardless of whether it is a baby monitor or a refrigerator. At least in Germany, according to a survey by Deloitte, may still be able to be improved. Accordingly, the spread of IoT consumer hardware in this country remains low, as our graphic today shows.
