Technology meets trust: New Center for Artificial Intelligence Open

Federal Digital Minister Dr. Volker Wissing opens interactive experience space for artificial intelligence

How does artificial intelligence (AI) work? Where can it be used profitably? And above all: what does she do? With these questions, interested parties can now deal with the Innovation and Quality Center (IQZ) for artificial intelligence in Berlin. Federal Digital Minister Dr. Volker Wissing officially opened the interactive adventure room in the German Technology Museum today.

The exhibition includes eight innovative exhibits that show AI in practical applications: from language models and image recognition to medical applications. The IQZ is a central component of the Mission KI initiative, with which the Federal Government wants to promote the use of AI technologies in Germany and strengthen digital competitiveness.

Create trust through knowledge

Dr. At the opening, Volker Wissing emphasized the relevance of artificial intelligence for the future of Germany: “We create a place where citizens can experience how AI improves their lives. The focus is on confidence in modern technologies. In our society and economy we need a positive, innovative mood for new technologies. Without AI, we will not be competitive in the future. We have to use it broadly - in medicine, in administration, in logistics, in all areas of the economy. This exhibition is intended to help reduce reservations and to convince people in a practical way of the advantages of AI. After Kaiserslautern, we are now making a strong sign of the development of trustworthy Ki 'Made in Germany' in Berlin. "

A milestone for the innovation location of Germany

Manfred Rauhmeier, chairman of the Acatech Foundation, emphasized the importance of the new center: “The Berlin Innovation and Quality Center is a milestone. It motivates people to actively design, which only result in confident answers to the global competition of AI-based data economy. The IQZ Berlin embodies the work of Mission KI and the entire Acatech Foundation: We create pre-competitive cooperation, initiate concerted actions and thus enable the joint structure of prospering innovation and transfer ecosystems. "

Joachim Breuninger, director of the German Technology Museum, also underlined the importance of the location: “The German Technology Museum stands for the combination of people and technology, technology history and future. This makes us the ideal location for the IQZ Berlin. With the new AI exhibition, we offer our visitors an exciting examination of a technology that already affects our lives significantly. ”

An interactive experience for everyone

The exhibition, which can be seen in Ladestrasse (Hall 6) of the German Technology Museum by the end of the year, offers interactive access to the diverse applications of AI. For example, visitors can enter the dialogue with a AI-based voice model, compete with image identification technology or learn how AI can improve posture at work.

A special highlight is the use of mixed reality glasses with which guests can "immerse yourself" in the human body to see how AI supports medical diagnoses and treatments. At the same time, the exhibition conveys the basics of trustworthy AI. Visitors learn more about the technical functions, ethical standards and quality assurance that are essential for the responsible use of AI.

Education and encounter

The IQZ Berlin not only sees itself as an exhibition location, but also as a platform for dialogue and further training. Guided tours and workshops for school classes as well as discussion and educational events for all age groups are planned. The aim is to sensitize a general public to the potential of AI and to promote constructive use of technology.

A central component of educational work is the imparting of skills in dealing with AI. For example, teachers and students can deal with the ethical challenges and the social effects of technology.

Development of trustworthy AI

The Mission Mission AI pursues a holistic approach: In addition to promoting dialogue and the transfer of knowledge, there is a strong focus on the development of standards and test methods for AI applications. As early as July 2024, the first AI innovation and quality center was opened at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Kaiserslautern. There is a focus on the development of technical test procedures to support companies in the introduction of trustworthy AI solutions.

The IQZ Berlin complements this offer by beating the bridge between scientific research, practical applications and the general public.

Why trustworthy AI is decisive

Trustworthiness is a key aspect for the success of AI in Germany. Without the trust of the population and the economy, it becomes difficult to implement the technology across the board. The IQZ Berlin therefore attaches great importance to showing how AI works and openly discusses the challenges, such as:

  • Bias and discrimination: How can prejudices be recognized and minimized in AI systems?
  • Data protection: Which measures are necessary to protect personal data?
  • Transparency: How can AI decisions be made understandable?

The mediation of these foundations is to create a broad understanding of the opportunities and challenges of AI.

A look into the future

AI will increasingly shape our living and working world in the coming years. Whether in medicine, mobility, agriculture or education - the possible uses are almost limitless. The Federal Government has set itself the goal of establishing Germany as a leading location for AI development and application.

The IQZ Berlin is an important building block to achieve this goal. It not only shows what is already possible today, but also gives courage to actively shape the future.

The exhibition in the German Technology Museum is accessible on Tuesday to Sunday free of charge. All interested parties are invited to discover the fascinating world of artificial intelligence and to open up the opportunities of this key technology for themselves.
