The Swiss' unbroken desire for digital games continues to ensure high growth rates in the gaming industry. This is a result of the “Swiss Entertainment and Media Outlook 2017-2021” published yesterday by PwC. According to this, around 516 million Swiss francs were generated in 2016 with games for consoles, computers, cell phones, etc. This corresponded to a growth rate of 13.8 percent compared to the previous year - no other segment in the media and entertainment industry could record such a jump.
The prospects for the coming years are also positive given trends such as e-sports and virtual reality (VR): the study already predicts video game sales of 725 million Swiss francs for 2021. Although growth is expected to gradually weaken again, compared to the industry, only higher growth can be expected in the area of online advertising in the next few years.
