The Swiss public's continued enthusiasm for digital games is driving strong growth in the gaming industry. This is one of the findings of the "Swiss Entertainment and Media Outlook 2017-2021," published yesterday by PwC. According to the report, games for consoles, computers, mobile phones, and other devices generated approximately 516 million Swiss francs in revenue in 2016. This represents a year-on-year growth rate of 13.8 percent – no other segment in the media and entertainment industry experienced such a significant increase.
The outlook for the coming years is also positive, given trends such as e-sports and virtual reality (VR): The study already forecasts video game revenue of 725 million Swiss francs for 2021. While growth is expected to gradually slow, only online advertising is projected to experience higher growth rates in the coming years compared to other sectors.
