Google strokes Gemini Pro and Ultra: New uniform branding for all AI services
Google relies on clarity: All AI models are now only called Gemini
Google has made a significant change in the naming of its AI services and abolished the specific names “Gemini Pro” and “Gemini Ultra”. Instead, the company now uses a simplified name strategy in which all services are summarized under the uniform name “Gemini”.

Background of the branding change
The changeover took place as part of the Google I/O 2025 conference, where the company fundamentally revised its AI strategy. This change reflects Google's efforts to reduce the confusion to reduce different Gemini versions and create a clearer brand identity.
The change was fully implemented by June 2025, with the names “Gemini Pro” and “Gemini Ultra” disappearing from the mobile app. Instead, “Gemini” with the information about the respective subscription level in the account menu appears.

Effects on existing services
Abolition of Gemini Advanced
The term “Gemini Advanced” also disappeared as part of this restructuring. The reddish Sparkle icon, which signaled various Gemini versions, was abolished because Google no longer wanted to distinguish between different versions.
Integration in Google One
The new AI plans have become part of the Google One structure, whereby the previous “Google One Ai Premium” was renamed “Google Ai Pro”. This integration enables Google to seamlessly bundle AI services with cloud storage and other premium functions.

Simplification of the product line
With this change, Google pursues the goal of reducing the complexity of its AI offers. Instead of having different Gemini versions with different names, there is now a uniform “Gemini” with clearly defined subscription levels.

With the 249.99 USD Ultra-Plan, Google positions itself directly against Openais Chatgpt Pro, which costs $ 200 per month. Google advertises this plan as a “VIP pass for Google AI” and is aimed at professional users and early adopters.
Extended functionalities
The new tiering system enables Google to offer experimental functions such as Project Mariner, which can automate up to 10 tasks at the same time. This differentiation according to the range of functions instead of product names enables more flexible development of new features.
The abolition of the “Pro” and “Ultra” names thus marks an important step in Google's AI strategy, in which clarity and scalability are in the foreground, while the technical innovation is also promoted.
