For years, Facebook has been the most popular social media platform among the 1,000 highest-grossing online shops in Germany. However, coinciding with the data scandals, a recent e-commerce study shows that some of the highest-grossing online shops have turned their backs on the industry leader for the first time in years. While 95.1 percent of the top 1,000 were active on Facebook in 2016, this figure fell to 91.6 percent in 2017. On the other hand, Instagram has seen significant growth. Currently, 70.4 percent (compared to 64.0 percent the previous year) use the platform.
