According to a new study by Edelman, there's a gap between how the general public and top tech executives understand artificial intelligence. Unsurprisingly, most tech leaders had a better grasp of the technologies powering AI behind the scenes than the general public.
Most technology leaders and the general public are aware that AI powers voice assistant programs. Many people in the public unaware that natural language processing—the systematic cataloging of human languages—utilizes artificial intelligence. In fact, the technology underlying natural language processing helps voice assistants, which the vast majority of people understand, to utilize AI.
Both technical leaders and the general public appeared to have little awareness of how AI is impacting the ride-sharing industry. Only about one-fifth of the surveyed population recognized that ride-sharing incorporates some degree of artificial intelligence, while less than one-third of technical leaders reported acknowledging the use of AI in the industry.
