The proportion of energy generated worldwide from renewable sources rose from 11 percent year-on-year to more than 12 percent in 2017. According to a report by the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), that is 1.8 Gigatons less carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. Total investment in this sector also increased by two points to almost $280 billion in 2017. As our infographic shows, developing countries only overtook developed countries in 2015.
