Almost every second respondent in a Bitkom survey published at the end of last year said they had been a victim of cybercrime in the last twelve months. 54 percent of those affected incurred costs. Federal Criminal Police Office recorded damages amounting to 71.8 million euros - but this is probably only a fraction of the actual financial consequences of crime on the Internet. The most common offense is so-called computer fraud - 74 percent of cybercrime cases in the narrower sense fall into this category.
