Internet Explorer was once the undisputed number one browser. That was quite some time ago, however. According to StatCounter pushed into second place by Chrome in 2012, and since 2016 it has only managed third place. The company reacted as early as 2015, launching a new web browser called Edge. However, Microsoft has been unable to replicate the success of Internet Explorer in any way, as the graph shows. Now, rumors suggest that Edge is being discontinued. Apparently, developers are already working on a new browser based on Chromium – essentially the code of the global market leader, Google.
