SMART POWER TECHNOLOGY for the intralogistics of the future

Under the umbrella term SMART POWER TECHNOLOGY, LTW Intralogistics consolidates all measures for intelligent energy use in storage and retrieval machines. This forward-looking product line includes both standard storage and retrieval machines with DC link coupling and smart control, as well as the CAPDRIVE storage and retrieval machine with supercapacitor technology. The goal is to combine maximum performance with the highest energy and cost efficiency.

The CAPDRIVE storage and retrieval machine is the most powerful implementation of SMART POWER TECHNOLOGY. It utilizes state-of-the-art supercapacitor technology to store energy generated during braking and feed it back into the driving or lifting process as needed. This allows for energy savings of up to 35%.

Smart technology for sustainable intralogistics

  • Recuperation and storage: Instead of being wasted as heat, braking energy is temporarily stored and made usable again.
  • Reduction of grid feed-in: By using supercapacitors, braking energy is stored locally and reused. This reduces the energy demand from the power grid, thereby lowering ongoing energy costs and significantly reducing grid fees.
  • Future-proof investment: Since 2022, 15% of all LTW storage and retrieval machines have been sold with an energy storage device (supercapacitor) – the demand for “green technology” is constantly growing.

Energy efficiency already included as standard

Even without energy storage, LTW storage and retrieval machines contribute to resource conservation: Thanks to intelligent control technology, they already consume up to 15% less energy in standard operation. With CAPDRIVE and optional supercapacitor equipment, this potential can be significantly increased.

Practical example: CAPDRIVE storage and retrieval machine in Vorarlberg

A CAPDRIVE RBG with energy storage was installed in the LTW high-bay warehouse on Achstrasse in Wolfurt (Vorarlberg/Austria) and directly compared with a conventional unit. The result:

  • Reduction of grid feed-in by around 80% – also visible in the significantly slimmer main supply cable (4 x 2.5 mm² instead of 4 x 16 mm²).
  • Energy costs were reduced by 65%, meaning that the additional costs for using supercapacitors were recouped after just three years.
  • At the same time, the system was able to easily bridge short-term network fluctuations, which represents an additional safety factor during operation.

A clear sign for the intralogistics of the future

With the development of the CAPDRIVE RBG in 2022, LTW responded to the growing demand for sustainable solutions. Particularly in the context of the economic transformation in Europe, the company is sending a clear signal and providing businesses with the right technology for the future.

“With SMART POWER TECHNOLOGY, we demonstrate that energy-efficient high-performance technology and economic advantages can go hand in hand. CAPDRIVE is a significant milestone in this – and sets new standards for the sustainable intralogistics of tomorrow,” said the management of LTW Intralogistics.
