The vast majority of Germans consider artificial intelligence (AI) to be useful. This is the result of a recent survey by the auditing and consulting firm PwC. For example, almost half of those surveyed believe that AI will prove useful in the area of cybersecurity in the future. Study participants also have high hopes for non-human intelligence in the fight against climate change and in cancer research.
What is artificial intelligence?
Eighty percent of Germans surveyed by Pegasystems believe they know what artificial intelligence (AI) is. A majority understand it to mean the ability of devices and software to think logically (58 percent), to learn (57 percent), and to solve problems (52 percent). In contrast, only 15 percent cited emotions as a characteristic of AI. It would be interesting to know whether the question was open-ended . That would certainly explain how answers like "controlling the human mind" or "taking over the world" made it into the study.
