Alibaba generated $30.8 billion in sales on Singles' Day 2018. This means that China's largest online retailer has exceeded its own previous year's result by 5.5 billion US dollars. For comparison: eCommerce sales on Tanksgiving weekend 2017 (Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday) were $7.3 billion in the USA. Single' Day is a day for single people, celebrated every year on November 11th. Eight years ago, Alibaba began luring customers with heavily discounted special offers on this day. Since then, many competitors have followed this example.
