Risikokapital in Asien ist ein langer Weg von einem reinen Markt zu einem Markt, der die Lücke auf den größten Risikokapitalmarkt Nordamerikas fast geschlossen hat. Laut Marktanalyst CB Insights wurden 2018 38 Prozent der Corporate Venture Capital Deals in den asiatischen Märkten abgeschlossen, gegenüber 19 Prozent im Jahr 2013. Damit sinkt der Anteil der nordamerikanischen Deals von 64 Prozent im Jahr 2013 auf 41 Prozent im Jahr 2018.
Insbesondere künstliche Intelligenz und digitale Gesundheitsangebote wurden in Asien in höherer Zahl abgeschlossen.
Dem Bericht zufolge beliefen sich die Venture-Capital-Deals von Unternehmen im Jahr 2018 auf insgesamt 52,95 Milliarden US-Dollar bei 2.740 Deals. Der aktivste Unternehmensinvestor war Google Ventures. Der chinesische Investor Baidu Ventures kam auf den Markt. Während China und Japan mit jährlichen Steigerungen von 54 bzw. 100 Prozent deutlich mehr Interesse an Corporate Venture Capital bekamen, verzeichnete Indien von 2016 bis 2017 das größte Wachstum bei Corporate Venture Capital, als die Deal Closings um 400 Prozent stiegen. Von 2017 bis 2018 wuchsen sie um weitere 20 Prozent.
Venture capital in Asia has come a long way from an also-ran to a market that has almost closed the gap on the biggest venture capital market, North America. According to market analyst CB Insights, 38 percent of corporate venture capital deals in 2018 were struck in Asian markets, up from 19 percent in 2013. This brings the North American deals share down from 64 percent in 2013 to 41 percent in 2018. Especially artificial intelligence and digital health deals were closed in Asia in higher numbers.
According to the report, corporate venture capital deals in 2018 totaled US$52.95 billion across 2,740 deals. The most active corporate investor was Google Ventures. Chinese investor Baidu Ventures came in fourth. While China and Japan attracted significantly more interest from corporate venture capital with yearly increases of 54 and 100 percent respectively, India saw the biggest growth in corporate venture capital from 2016 to 2017, when deal closings increased by 400 percent. From 2017 to 2018, they grew by another 20 percent.
